Events for Danes in Scotland

The #DANISH showcase at Edinburgh Festival Fringe is presented by the Danish Arts Foundation.
We would like to share the shows and connect with Danes based in Scotland (as well as their relatives and friends). Therefore we have made these special dates for you to come and see your preferred shows and meet the Danish artists behind the shows – while enjoying a free Danish refreshment.
Please book your tickets on the below links for the shows you would like to see – and we’ll meet you there.
5. August: ROCKY! by Fix&Foxy at ZOO Southside
Fiercely entertaining award-winning political theatre based on the movie about the boxer.

#DANISH show ROCKY! won the Danish theatre award twice in 2018. On the UK-premiere 5. August 17.55 at ZOO Southside in Edinburgh you can meet the award-winning Danish director Tue Biering and have a Carlsberg. All you have to do is book your ticket for 5. August –
Rocky is a white man, tired of being skipped in line, of being laughed at and seeing black people making off with all the trophies. He wants the chance to win back his self-respect and a place on the podium. The artist and his audience of empathetic humanitarians loves to see the little man fight his way from the bottom up, defeating prejudice and a system creating more people like him.
But what if all the Rockies rise and start beating up the artist, the audience and all their kind? What if their values and existence is being defeated? If Rocky turns out to be the opponent of the politically correct?
“This experience proved to me that theatre is able to deal with the most problematic discussions of zeitgeist and power.” ***** (Berlingske)
9. August: AN EVE AND AN ADAM by Granhøj Dans at Dancebase
A rather naked duet

#DANISH show AN EVE AND AN ADAM won the national theatre award when the show premiered in Denmark. On the UK-premiere 9. August 18.50 at Dance Base in Edinburgh you can meet the award-winning Danish choreographer Palle Granhøj and have a Danish refreshment. All you have to do is book your ticket for 9. August –
A beautiful, profoundly naked performance presented as nature intended. This is a performance celebrating the pure, authentic, original beauty of nudity – as a contrast to the versions given to us by social media. Increasingly we see uncovered bodies readily exposed all over social media. All kinds of pornography are easily available and widely consumed. Modesty no longer exists when it comes to the naked body in virtual culture, yet young people feel shamed by natural nudity. In this provocative show, Palle Granhøj asks: ‘what has happened to our relationship to our natural nudity?
14. August: 12.15 WALK-MAN by DON GNU at ZOO Southside
You will never cross the street in the same way again!

#DANISH show WALK-MAN by extraordinary DON GNU that got known for their men with socks in sandals. On the UK-premiere 14. August at ZOO Southside in Edinburgh you can meet the Danish team behind the show and have a Danish refreshment. All you have to do is book your ticket for 14. August –
DON GNU digs into the tediousness of everyday routines in search of poetry and humor in a performance with muscular physicality and edgy stunt tricks. One ordinary day, four ordinary men take a walk through a city. They readily follow unwritten and strict rules of good behavior and norms of social etiquette until one of them suddenly decides to rebel…With trademark DON GNU “everyday stunts” and raw physicality, WALK-MAN is a performance in which the ground is literally swept away from under the feet of four men walking. In a world where rules, norms and routines no longer apply, a pedestrian is not simply a person crossing the street and common understanding of “good behavior” falls apart.
